Monitor/Display help.

January 30th, 2024

I tried installing some new RAM the other day and since then my monitor has been acting strange.
The power light is orange, normally it’s green, and won’t fix itself when I turn it back on.
When I first boot up the computer the monitor shows a message telling me to check the cable connection.
I know it is not the connection because it is plugged completely in…
If you can help me, that would be excellent.
*Edit:
The RAM I tried installing was of the wrong type.
I have tried booting up with the original RAM setup I had but it still won’t work.

Answer #1
The RAM I tried installing was of the wrong type.
ut-oH
how “wrong”
you have to force it into the slot ?
any smoke when you powered up ?
any burned contacts on the “wrong” ram when you took it out ?
any other monitor work ?

I am not sure it makes much difference, but:
I normally have two Kingston 256MB DDR sticks.
The sticks I tried to install were two Kingston 512MB DDR2 sticks.
There did not appear to be any damage to slots or RAM sticks.
I only have the single monitor to use.
Answer #3
DDR
DDR2
have seen mobo’s burn out ‘cuz of the wrong type of ram installed
you know the mobo model ?
you could try a BIOS reset
disconnect from power and either find the “RESET_CMOS” jumper on the board or take the mobo battery out for an hour
then try it and keep your fingers crossed
if no joy & can’t find the jumper
then leave the battery out over nite and then try it again
the PC sounds normal otherwise, you hear fans, the drive/s spin up ?
you get lights ? power and/or drive activity

I do not have model yet, can check later and post.
Everything starts normally, but there is one problem…
The primary power light is orange, like the monitor’s.
I will try taking the battery out overnight and will post the results tomorrow.
Thank you for your help.
Answer #5
*Sorry for the double post but I needed to get this back to a noticeable position.
I tried taking the battery out and had no results.
Taking it out overnight changed nothing, so I will try the other suggestions.
Answer #6
, you installed two different ram ,ddr and ddr2 ram is isnt the same and you can mess it up, do you motherborad support ddr and ddr2? if so, try only add in the two ddr2 new ram you just bought and see whether it boots up. its not your monitor problem, it’s that your comp cant passed the memory test at bios.

Perhaps you should have read the rest of the posts… These questions have been asked and answered.
I appreciate your attempt at helping me, but you should have read a bit more.

The LED arrangement would not affect the computer this much.
Do not take offense, I am only stating what should have been common sense to most people.
Answer #10
try refer to your motherboard book guiding, sorry cant help cause i dont know what is your motherboard and hard tell the symptoms that comp trying to tell.
Answer #11
– Just to help you better, when you are putting your previous RAM memory in your computer, will it work? If not, it’s your monitor/cable or videocard which you may moved it accidentally.
Answer #12
Did you accidentally unplug anything when you were messing around inside your case? Double check all the cables etc
Also, if you have a spare one, try a different graphics card. It’s unlikely to be your actual monitor that’s broken
