green light pc flashes but won’t turn on

October 21st, 2019

I’ve got an old Hp desktop which hasn’t got any power for a week ( don’t know if this is bad for a pc) and now i’ve put the power back on the green light at the back flashes but the pc itself won’t turn on. i’ve opened the pc and i removed the power cable of the motherboard and the green lights stops and just gives light. does anyone know what to do?
Answer #1
The light your refering to belongs to the ethernet card.
Just to make sure i got this right,Your saying
you press the ON/OFF button and nothing happens?
Try resetting the BIOS:
1. Unplug the power cord.
2. Open the case.
3. There should be a blue jumper next to the battery like
this:

Use tweezers and move it to pins 2-3 and keep it that way
for ~15 seconds then put back to pins 1-2
4. Close the case,Plug the power cord and power up.
5. If it worked then enter bios and load defaults or optimized defaults.
Answer #2
It doesn’t work but i don’t think that it’s THE ethernet Card . I think it’s THE pcu light
Answer #3
If it was in the back it can’t be anything but the ethernet card,Anyways
you haven’t answered my question^ i need a small clarification.
Answer #4
Yes if i want to turn on my pc with THE power button at THE front than It doesn’t do anything
Answer #5
Try hotwiring the PSU using a paperclip or a wire stripped on both ends,Follow this guide:

If it turns on then the motherboard is dead,If it doesn’t turn on then naturally
it has to be the PSU.

Some PSU’s have green light to indicate if they are getting power, if you could take a quick photo of the back of the pc when the green light is illuminated it would help, as for hot wiring stuff… be careful Wink the same could be done with the front I/O pins for the power button just to rule out everything before you go out and buy any new equipment
Answer #7
yeah i’m sure it’s the PSU light because it’s on the PSU itself but when i remove this cable http://media.photobucket.com/image/PSU%20cable/farmpond/forums/psuCable.jpg (it’s the big one) from the motherboard it lights up without flashing so that means there’s no problem but when i put it back the green PSU light flashes again but can’t it just be that my BIOS battery is dead because the pc hasn’t got powered for like a week?
Answer #8
I don’t think it would be the battery, it only keeps the time/date and BIOS settings, if it is dead the computer would start up but the BIOS would be the default setting. If the fan isn’t spinning up then I would go as far as saying the motherboard is faulty
Answer #9
how did that happen?
Answer #10
I could still be wrong but that’s what it looks like, it just happens, components degrade to a point where they don’t perform their job
