Acronis True Image PROBLEM!

August 5th, 2016

okay well, i tried installing xp MULTIPLE times in this very old computer because i just reformatted the hard drive because the whole thing was like full of viruses or SOMETHING….
so,
1: i reformatted
2: tried to install XP multiple times but failed with an error that says that it cannot find i8654 (or whatever number) in the disk (probably a ~ censored ~ faildrive)
3: i used another computer (really fast quad core) with vmware to make XP in the Virtual Machine….
4: i then used acronis to back it up so i can store it to my DVD for restoring for the old computer
5: it ALSO failed at it, saying its a corrupt volume (note, i used the acronis bootup disk to boot into true image for the revory)
6: i then put the .tib image into my external drive.
7: it worked…. but then i CANNOT boot into my windows (on the old computer) it just keeps saying “windows has recovered from a serious crash or something with all the things that say “safe mode” or “start windows normally”
when i choose either, it crashes (or rather, restarts) and it does it again and again…
and the partition the OS (the recovered OS) is on is the Primary Active one!
so wtf?! help!
SOOOOOO……… to put it all together in one simple termmm…. i made an OS from VMware and want to bring it to another computer (a very old computer)

Answer #1
the chances of an OS image from 1 pc working on another pc is not good at the best so when its from an up to date pc to a very old pc its not got any chance all of the hardware drivers are wrong and as that includes the chip set snd cpu it has ZERO chance
Answer #2
Actually it’s real simple to get a working OS image. Simply remove all the drivers that were installed and use that as a clean image.
Or on most recent computers, no driver will be installed unless you have the proper software. This is almost always the case with newer hardware.

You can’t change that image anymore. You’d have to create a new one sadly if you want a real proper one.
Also.

That’s the i386 folder. This contains Windows files that were used during the installation. Basically it’s all the files that you need from your CD normally. (In case something asks for the XP disc).

Okay well I have access to it still… soo all i need is just the knowledge of making the changes like you said =)
PS you’re pretty sure this would work right?
because the final destination of the “OS/the whole thing” is onto an old computer.

and yeah
the funny thing is that it showed the error on the physical computer but not in VMWare. O.o

If you have an original XP cd, just boot from it and run the ‘R’ repair option to the DOS prompt. Select the C:Windows usually option 1 and the type in the administrators password (if any). Then run the check disk by typing chkdsk /r This could take upto a couple of hour to run depending on the size of the disk and the speed of the pc. After it’s completed then restart the pc.
I’ve have to do this quite often as I live using Aconis and use it every day and some restores just need this action – Why I dont know!
Answer #11
What you’ve suggested didnt work for me!
=(
thanks though, it gave me something to think about…
anyways…. anything else? =(
Answer #12
Now im trying with Acronis Universal Restore (ive heard it will do all the hardware changes automatically, unlike the regular True Image Home that i used for this before.)
Okay well wish me luck!
ill report back here to see how it GOES! =)
