My laptop isn’t doing what its told!

August 4th, 2016

About 2 nights a week I leave my laptop on to download stuff. I set the settings to turn the display off after 1 minute, but it doesn’t work anymore.
Anyone have a clue what I could be doing wrong?

Is hibernate disabled? Make sure it’s enabled, otherwise it won’t go to sleep.

I’m talking about just turning the display off.
Laptop doesn’t need the display on to continue doing what its doing.

I realize this.. Have you tried changing the time & see if it works? Update video card drivers to latest versions? Do you get any errors?
Need more info.

I get no errors. Not sure about updating video card drivers though, how would I do that?

Hmm.. Odd. Well, just some suggestions. Are you sure you have Administrator rights? Try disabling UAC & then trying it again. If that doesn’t work switch it from 1 minute to the next one up, and then restart. As for updating video card drivers, I just noticed it was a Laptop & your video card is most likely integrated, so never mind on that point.

I’m the only user so yes I have admin rights. And I’ve tried changing the time and restarting/shutting down several times.

Here are the video card drivers.. Try updating them, and see if that has any effect.

If the PC is seeing ‘activity’ it wont turn of the screen. i cant image what activity its seeing here though…. as for the app to turn of your display, Ive used this one for a long time, trust me the link is safe, if you dont trust it, just Google “monoff” and you’ll find it yourself. just run it, and your display turns off, until you do something, just like normal.

Failing that, re-install Windows

Try disabling the touchpad if you have a button to do it.
Also change the advanced power settings so that when you close the lid it doesn’t go onto standby, that way you can close the lid and save the power whilst still downloading.
