if you just bought a ps3..your SOL…im sorry, to play downloaded ps3 games you have to be on firmware 3.55 from there you can do all the hacks and tweaks…well if you just bought your ps3 it will obviously be on a firmware much higher than 3.55…ps3’s can be downgraded to 3.55 but ONLY if the PS3 left the factory with <3.55 which obviously yours didnt…i did it a few years back had a ext hdd hooked to my ps3 with the games in a folder called “gamez” the ps3 has its on loader you install…best bet if to buy a used ps3 or search for “ps3 3.55” on craigslist or ebay and buy one that way

i heard theres jailbreaks for high firmware now? Hav’nt got the ps3 just yet.

FAKE… its always been 3.55 nothing above that can be jailbroken but once on 3.55 you can do tweaks and hacks to make your ps3 think your on a higher firmware or on the newest firmware…

There is another option now an optical drive emulator(ode)these will work on nearly all ps3,s including the super slims I don’t know much more here’s a link to one of them http://www.cobra-ode.com/

Well I do know a bit more about them, so let me explain what a ODDE does. ODDE stands for Optical Disk Drive Emulator. Basicly what it does, it sits between the BluRay-drive and the motherboard of the PS3. You can connect a harddrive loaded with ISO’s to the ODDE, and the ODDE let’s you pick what game you want to load. When a game is selected, the ODDE emulates the ISO so that the PS3 thinks that the ISO is played from the BluRay drive. Since you just bought the PS3, the 3.55 option above is not available. The ODDE is your only option (for now). A bit of soldering is required (not for the older models though), but that shouldn’t be too hard since they also provide a QSB (Quick Solder Board). You place the QSB on the correct location in the PS3, solder the holes, and you’re done.
Since the ODDE’s are quite new, you’ll have to make sure that the games you download are in ISO format. For jailbroken PS3’s, a folder with the game files is required. Make sure to download the right version, or it’ll cost you a lot of GB’s of bandwith. But if I remember correct, it is possible to convert them back and forth.
That basicly is all you need to know to start modding your PS3, and playing your games

yeah it’s a 4.46 firmware. So a downloaded ps3 game burnt on a bluray would not work correct?

It won’t work as far as i know it was never possible to load from a disk all the hacked ps3’s load from a portable hard drive. As for the firmware its not what it is now thats important but what firmware it was on when it was new and then only 3.55 or below can be hacked this means that only the old fat ps3’s and the first of the 2k slim models are hackable.
