How do I choose a ‘file type’, link type

August 8th, 2016

Or whatever you call it …
Suppose I want to download Skyfall. When I try the Search function there are over a 1000 matches.
Is there sort of a guideline to know which one to pick?
My laptop is pretty fast, my internet connection too and my tv set is about 4 years old so not really antique.
I’m not in a hurry so I don’t care if it takes half an hour to download and I don’t care about a not 100% perfect quality.
98% will do Now how do I choose ?

There are a lot of uploaders who are known for there quality releases. When I used to downloaded off WBB, Scorp was my preferred uploader. Once you download a few films, especially you should have a good idea of which uploader suits your needs best. If your downloading to watch on your TV I’d recommend someone who does .AVI formats as there will work on most televisions, but other filetypes as .MP4 .MKV may also work depending on the TV.

Thanks for your reaction .
Choose a preferred uploader. Good tip.
And for the format I understand that I have to choose one that I can play on my TV. And when I want to play it on dvd other formats I required. I suppose …
I’ve already learned that dimension is a better quality and lol is smaller and faster to download but not as good.
Now I have to pick one for the movie …

You don’t have to stick to a particular uploader, I don’t see any reason to.
And for the record, While some uploaders do record & encode themselves, The vast majority
of em just uploads a existing release of a certain group. A small portion of em also re-encodes to 480p MKV for smaller file size (which is quicker to download for people with slow connections)
Dimension is a release group which releases only 720p HDTV rips btw. DVD players & TVs generally have limited capabilities with playing current video formats, Which is why most people who download shows/movies online own an HD Media Player! You really should consider buying one (Unless your connecting the laptop directly to the TV via HDMI) What to pick depends on your preferred quality standard and how your gonna be playing it, And your TV of course. There’s no point downloading a 720p/1080p release if your just gonna use an app like convertxtodvd to convert it to DVD (will degrade the quality) Does your TV even support HD? 720P or 1080p?

I just want(ed) to know the difference between the ‘format types’.
DvDRipx264 or xvid or ac3 or yify … for me it’s a big blur.
I’ve picked one, added Dutch subtitling and it all works fine.
But if someone can explain the differences and which one to pick in a certain occasion … feel free
Answer #5
Dvdrip means it should be from the actual dvd. x264 means it’s a mp4 format. Xvid means it’s an avi format. yify is just a group release name, so if you see that name in any files, then it should be the exact same file regardless of what uploader you download it from. When you see something like Dutch, French or German it means that’s the language it’s in. Ac3 is audio.

Aha! Thank you! I’ll Google some more with this information.
