Can’t get onto internet

I had vista on my acer aspire t690. I had downloaded tiny xp beast edition from here. And installed it, because I didn’t want vista. The beast addition i guess was made awhile ago and I couldn’t get on to the internet, even with the ethernet cable plugged in. Can’t get on. So I bought a wireless adapter, since it didn’t have one, and tried to connect to a friends network. It would say that I was connected to the network but unable to access internet.
I was thinkning it was probably something with the drivers, but I can’t get on the internet to use a program like driver detective. Do you guys know of something I should download. Or what I should do. Or even what the problem is?
