Strange Problem with External Harddisk

August 4th, 2016

Hey guys, having a weird problem with my new external hard disk connected to my CPU. Each time I boot up my system, the external hard disk won’t be detected until I power off and on the external hard disk. Which means that I can’t find the hard disk at My Computer unless I power off and on again, which can get quite annoying sometimes because a lot of my libraries are linked to that hard disk. I’m running on windows 8 pro operating system. Hard disk: Western Digital my book essential 2TB.
Is there any fix to this?

Answer #2
Perhaps you could try reinstalling the driver for the hard disk?
Answer #3
Check the Western Digital website to see if there are any updates to fix compatibility issues for your particular model.
Answer #4
I tried re-installing the drivers.. the problem still persists. It couldn’t have been hardware issues, could it? All I need to do when it doesn’t show up is to power off/on again. I’ve never encounter such problem before..

I have one that would only be recognized if I was connected to the WD website (as soon as the tab was closed it would disappear again), after removing it from its enclosure and using an alternative power and USB connector it worked fine every time (still 100% healthy), still a mystery but no longer a problem. Contact WD and see what they say, might be something simple, if not and its still under warranty they may replace it.

Install the software they give you, Try another USB connection in the PC and check the BIOS settings for the USB’s
