SSD Partitions

January 21st, 2020

My System partition is huge and almost empty, how can I merge it into the C: partition or at least resize it so it isn’t taking up so much of my SSD’s space? I also have a recovery partition that I’d like to do the same with.

Answer #1
why cant windows resize your partitions?
you could reinstall windows on the entire SSD drive. (delete partitions as part of the windows install)
Answer #2
you could try ‘gparted’ or another partition manager,
but I’d be defragmenting your partitions first, so that all your data is in one place on the drive.
even then, there’s a real danger of removing the part of the partition that has critical data on it and ruining what you have.
your best bet is to just reinstall everything and create partitions that suit you during the installation process

Thanks for the replies.
I tried resizing and merging the partitions using easeUS partition manager but with no success.
I thought about reinstalling windows but I am using a netbook without a disk drive and running win 7 basic so what is the best method for reinstalling windows?

Try using Acronis Disk Director.
You can install Windows from a USB flash drive. (Use Google)

You’re welcome.
Here’s a head start…

Make sure you have all your drivers to hand before doing it so you can get an internet connection afterwards – grabs the latest drivers from the manufacturers site
Rufus is another good tool

You may need to go into the BIOS to be able to boot from USB, a lot of pc’s you can do it by tapping F12

To go off topic a little…
Does anyone know why some of these brand name computers waste so much space with crap?
I mean why do you need a 21.15BG A:\ partition plus a 36.74GB recovery partition..?
(A normal Windows install makes only a 100-200MB startup partition and you can avoid that if you want to)
I thought all you would need would be one recovery partition with basically just Windows on it .
Why does half the drive need to be wasted !
Answer #8
I agree , so much unnecessary wasted space.
To go back to what was saying about drivers. I ran the driverquery cmd prompt and it brought up a sizeable list of drivers. How do I know which ones are necessary and will be needed after reinstalling windows?
If it helps i have a Samsung NC110.
Answer #9
Get your drivers from Samsung support.
This should be it, if it is the right model number..

Thanks very much .
Last question before I finally push the button on this reinstall. Will the Windows product key I currently have be transferred during the install and be recognised afterwards?

That’s why most sensible people wipe the system drive as soon as they buy a new pc, I have no idea why the SSD/HDD suppliers/manufacturers do this for the vendors (they add the software for the vendor at their end)
@Dave – I bought a Zipad for my Samsung NC10 Netbook years ago (5) I added a decent optical drive and a 1TB 2.5″ HDD, really useful, even with a 12″ notebook.

Another option you can use is a wireless ODD, I was given a Samsung one by a grateful client, it’s pretty cool, can even connect it to the wired network via Ethernet. You can’t use these to install Windows though.
Yes, you can still use the MS genuine key if installing by USB methods, most people here using Win 7 should use either Cody’s Windows toolkit, or Daz’s Loader – so they are working options if your key doesn’t work.
Answer #12
I think you get the option to type in key during install.
You would need to use the same breed of Windows, eg. Home Premium, Prof, Ultimate, as your original.
