I am using Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Answer #3
ok . check drivers . realtek for example . and check where you plugging it
Answer #4
This happened to me before too, My guess is that you’ve gotten the wrong sound driver. If you go into the device manager and find your speakers, Is there a little yellow triangle with an “!” inside? If so, what’s it say?
Please list what type of sound card you have and I’ll help to the best of my knowledge.

how can that be?? It’s impossible since the driver CD is provided when I bought this. Look.. the sound card and the driver are matched.. but the thing is, before I formatted my PC. The sound are gone and my system is turning unstable. Then, when I formatted my PC, everything is stable of course and the sound is still out.. need a lil direction for the device manager thing..

That can be one of your problems. You see, The drivers on the disc may consist of old drivers. It’s best to visit the brand’s website and look up the drivers that way. The drivers on your disc may be outdated and incompatible with your operating system. Even if they are, The old drivers from the disc may conflict with another piece of hardware.
May i ask you something though? Did your PC happen to have an on-board sound system attached to the motherboard when you bought/built it? If that’s the case, you may need to go within the bios and disable the on-board sound card.
