[SOLVED] 2 Lacie hard drives no longer responding

August 5th, 2016

I have a 500GB LaCie d2 HD QUADRA 7200RPM 16MB EK and the drive turns on only when you switch the switch to “on”, rather than auto, and the blue LED at the front flashes despite being connected to a vista or XP computer.
This fault occured upon a reboot, the lacie was not recognized by the computer. For this drive, there is a distinct sound coming from the drive sounding like the disk momentarily scraping against something which lasts for a fraction of a second (similar to a clock ticking).
The other lacie drive that is not working is a “500GB LaCie BIG DISK USB2 7200RPM 8MB EU+UK” and the drive turns on by pushing the blue LED or if you connect both USB2 and power cable into the back of it and if you hold the USB2 cable at a certain angle (lean the cable towards you if it facing to the right), the drive will turn on and the blue LED will not flicker. However when this occurs the computer gives the two errors (see below) and there is not a shortcut for it in “my computer”.
Yet if you turn on the “500GB LaCie BIG DISK USB2 7200RPM 8MB EU+UK” pushing the blue LED at the front, the light will flicker and the errors will not show.
This error occured upon a reboot (one day after the QUADRA ceased responding).

Any suggestions?

Answer #1
Did they come with drivers??
Are the jumpers on each HDD set correctly?
Try a reformat
Answer #2
they didnt come with drivers
i do not know about the jumpers but there hasant been any impacts to the hard drives and they worked last week (the hard drives are in a case and if i open it i void the warranty)
i cannot reformat because i cannot access them nor does my computer recognize they are there
Answer #3
usually when they show as a device thats not recognized id say it was an issue with the PC, do you have another machine you can test them in because it seems really odd that both drives would fail at the same time
Answer #4
Do you hear clicking sounds or any other noises?
It could mean they’re dying.
Answer #5
Are they connected corrctly a cable might have come loose

Don’t matter how old it is but sorry to say that drive is going to die and soon I might add. Get any data off there as fast as possible. Try the ice method. Put it in an antistatic bag and put it in a deepfreezer. Plug it in once it’s all chilled. Hopefully will work long enough to get the data off there

I emailed Lacie and i have found out the following (in case someone else has this problem)
“Thank you for contacting LaCie Technical Support. The first drive (non-quadro) sounds like it may just be a bad power supply. Swap out with the other drive to verify. If it is bad, we can swap it out for you. ”
This worked for me
“Regarding the second drive, it will need repair as the bridge card is failing.”
Thank you for your help and i will change the topic to solved
