Lenovo T400 problem

August 19th, 2013

I have had this laptop for 2 yrs now. Its supposed to be a pretty good laptop with decent specs.
T9600 processor, 3 GB ram, blah blah.
Lately, it has been randomly hanging when I turn it on. I made backups for everything and tried reformating with the backup drive, but dint work. I am not sure what to do next. I installed windows 7 and office 2010 on it, but this was 2 yrs ago and i dont have CDs or keys anymore. I am not very techsavy. Is there some sort of noob guide to a reformat? Also, how would I find the keys? Is all this even worth it? How much would taking it to a lenovo service center cost me? I realize, they have to take a look at my laptop and whats wrong with it first, but assuming its just a regular reformat, whats the cheapest way to get it done?
P.S.: I am in Toronto, Canada. If that matters.
Thanks!

Answer #1
What exactly do you mean by hanging and at what stage (when doing what?)
You shouldn’t be too quick to reinstall the OS,It could be a simple software problem that’s easy to fix or maybe
even a hardware problem,To make a long story short,First you have to figure out what the problem is,Only after
seek a solution.

It hangs run after i turn it on. I have tried waiting for a while and nothing changes. So i usually restart and they same thing happens all over again.

Gee that says it all.. NOT!
I asked you to be specific but you repeated the same old lines,”hangs” could have a number of different meanings
and is open for interpretation,And I’m not sure what you mean by “run” either,Again,Be specific as possible,Define
hangs and specify if this happens during post (bios screen) or during/after windows has loaded.
Answer #5
will it boot to safe mode ?
