August 5th, 2016

Hi, im a newb to dual booting, i was just wondering how i dual boot my computer with built-in vista so that i can run XP essental edition (upped by TheDA) aswell? also, will this allow me to transfer files from the vista OS into the XP OS? i really want to move over to XP but i dont want to lose all my data and it will save me the time of backing everything up to CD

Yes you can. What you need to do is follow this guide exactly and you will be fine.

and yes you will be able to access the files from the other OS while using either XP or vista.

I just used EasyBCD but I did install Vista after XP. But EasyBCD should be able to backup the Vista bootloader and settings before installing XP and then if EasyBCD is installed in XP, the bootloader could be restored and the dual booting setup.
