Download speed since sopa laws = slow?

August 11th, 2013

Hi smarter people of the forum,
Was hoping someone might have an idea as 2 why my I-mac is downloading @ speeds of 29-80kbps, whereas prior to sopa my speeds where between 120-600kbps. I run the latest “lion” software with “ClamXav” for extra protection. It may be a coincidence but there doesn’t seem 2 be any viral or malware infections(according 2 clamxav & virus barrier express).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Downloading from WHERE? Some file host(s)? Torrent? Are you premium or free user?

It hasn’t been passed, in fact, the guy who made SOPA dropped it.
Have you tried those progams (don’t know what they’re called cause im a windows user) that try to optimize your internet connection?
OR just go bother your ISP until you get a boost in speed.
If you are downloading off rapidshare they’re just being dicks.
Answer #3
problem is not SOPA
all free user (and some premium speeds as well) D/L speeds from file hosts have dropped since MU got busted
seems they all, or most anyway, used the same hard drive farm for file storage and some of those got shut down when MU was shut down
so I’m guessing the lower D/L speeds are intentional to limit file host bandwidth usage

ALL the governments have activated the monitoring systems they already have in place..
You didn’t actually think SOPA was a new idea, and the ONLY idea?
Here in the UK we already have a bastaard watchdog group that checks each and every url for ‘naughty or nice’, and blocks or passes it.
All they’ve done is kick them into high gear – they presume that if everyone complained about SOPA then they have something to hide..

All isps seem to target people who download, and they will not tell you if they do. You need to download just at night, and never during the day if you can.
It must be to do with they can get away with it, with the fair use rules they all have. They can limit your speed if they want and get away with it, as they do not need to tell you.

andy1033 you are very wrong m8 , one has to wonder what your upto
they will only limit your speed if you have gone past your monthly quota , how the f**k would they know you are downloading warez and not legitimate files ? the chances of someone sitting there and checking every single download that every single customer does , it would be cost prohibitive for the isp and we all know they are in it for the money and if they arnt pushed hard enough they will do nothing about it , at the moment its innocent until proven guilty , and it costs great amounts of money to prove guilt
as for sopa reducing speeds , no not at all , i use rapidshare and IDM and get anything from 1mb/s ( daytime ) to 3 mb/s ( night time ) , and i dont think it ever will , its either going to close sites like rapidshare or leave them open ,, it has nothing to do with speed of your download
if push comes to shove i and a few mates will download – beg – borrow – and yes ill say it steal as much as we can and share it with as many people as we can , we have been ripped of by entertainment companies for way to long now , imagine me wanting to take my wife and 2 kids to the movies for a few hours entertainment – i did that at xmas , it cost me $120 for 1.5 hours , or i can download it for free on wbb and spend $120 on takeaway food ( i love chinese food lol ) and a bottle of bourbon – hmm what would you choose , and im just your average joe from down the road
D/L speeds from file hosts have dropped since MU got busted
well thats probably normal as more are using the same host ( rapidshare ) the more users downloading = less bandwidth for each user

Free user, using file hosts (e.g. RS)….could I expect torrents to be quicker?
Thanks again, good info guys…
