Can’T get a stable 965BE overclock

March 13th, 2014

Hi all,
I builded my first rig with the following specs:
-ASRock 880GMH/U3S3 Mobo
-AMD Phenom II 965 BE overclocked @ 4ghz(125w version)
-Ati 6870/oc
-8Gb Kingston hyperX Genesis Ram @ 1600mhz
-Zalman Cnps11x extreme cpu cooler
-Corsair TX650M PSU
Ive seen peaple overclock the Phenom II 965BE easely by just increasing the multiplier and Vcore. But it is just nog working to me.
I expected an atchievement from 3.4ghz cpu to 4-4,2ghw and Northbridge from 2 to 2.8-3hgz. Now it seems i can’t even get 3.8ghz stable in prime95. It gives errors within 15 minutes.
I seriously have been researching and testing for 14 hours straight zithout results… Im getting pretty sick of it.
I tried everything…low fsb with high multis and the opposite..
Decreasing RAM speeds and HTT speeds..
Up the Vcore qnd NB voltage to max safe.
The system seems to run stable even when gaming except running prime95.
Why cant I just achieve a decent overclock like others so easely achieve?
Maybe its ny mobo chipset that is holding me back?
Im getting out of ideas.. someone can help me zith this?
Thx on advantage

I appreciate the help mate but I already been studieing those guides and researching the net for some time know without descent results.
I guess my mobo isn’t up to the task as it seems to be aan entry level mobo

What stress test is it failing in Prime95? Try loosening the memory timings (to something like 9-10-10-27) as the most common failure for failing blend is inappropriate timings. Also, decrease the memory speed to 1333MHz and keep the voltage at 1.65v. If it’s stable in Prime95 then work your way down from there.

Hi there paradoxysM,
It failed the blend and large fft test. I tried lowering the timings and ram speed already but it keeped failing within the hour.
But this morning something awkward occurd. The cpu seems to be stable at 4ghz on 1.4V I thought i dind’t get it stable at 4ghz before but then i was running on 1.55V. Stable NB overclocking is a no go though. It failes at 2.2ghz.

Ah I wouldn’t really overclock much with that board, its power delivery is just adequate (5 phase, old exposed regulators).
Something like a GA-890FX UD5 is decent for the job.
Personally I have a Crosshair IV Formula and its fantastic, old and overpriced.
Stable as hell.
Try 3.6-3.7

But if i get it stable at lets say 4ghz. Would it brick my mobo in long term use?

The motherboard will be buggy for the rest of its life.
Maybe a MOSFET will blow up.
Start a small fire.

I got it stable at 4ghz ~1.45V in prime for some time now.. So u think it wil brick my motherboard even if it passes prime95?

Nah your motherboard will live for a few years. Long enough.

Thanx for the info but after a few hours it still gave an error at 4ghz. I reached the maximum of 3.7ghz at 1.425V stable in prime for 12 hours. I think I reached the maximum know so i will settle down with the result even is it just a bit.
Thanx for your help
