RAM usage

March 23rd, 2023

Hey guys,
I recently bought a new laptop.
It runs the windows 7 Home Premium 64bit version.
It has 4gigs of RAM.
Now I’ve putted some meters on my desktop to see my RAM and CPU, but my RAM is constantly using 30%. When I start my laptop up, when I do nothing on it, always 30%. Now my question is: Is it normal that my RAM is constantly using 30% even when I’m not doing anything?
Thanks in advance,
Nin.

Answer #1
The Usage of the RAM depends on the number of applications running in the background.
Do you have Anti-Virus? Any other background applications when system starts?
Yes, It’s normal. I have just closed everything and its taking 28% of my entire memory!.
If you want to save Ram. Go to START -> RUN -> MSCONFIG and startup
And Disable Unnecessary startup items.
Also, The windows will occupy some memory, You can expect yourself to be safe at that rate.
Answer #2
if you have avg uninstall it and put a better one on that thing eats the ~love~ out of you ram
Answer #3
Sometimes the idle process brings it up to that… OR MORE. If t sis the SYSTEM IDLE PROCESS then u cant do anything about it exept more ram
Answer #4
30% ram usage is not a problem. It’s normal. RAM is there to be used for a reason. Memory is always faster than a page file.
Answer #5
Ok, cheers for the quick answers.
Just wasn’t sure if it was right .
Thanks guys.
Answer #6
Im using 1gb of ram when im not doing anything lol. Tast Manager – processes – Memory
Answer #7
please show your total running process when your pc is idle.
Answer #8
RAM usage will be shown even you don’t do anything on it, its because some software are using RAM in background (like – Windows Services, Antivirus, etc..).
Note: If you see your CPU usage going high (for a long time) in idle state then it means that your computer is doing some hidden processing. Monitor that thing because it may be a symptom of Virus infection.
For example:

@: What do you mean with total running process?
@chintuishero: my CPU always stays low.. So I think that a good thing.

That’s a stupid way to make assumptions

Yes it is..

It may be, but I found this method very safe. My software installations are fixed, and I know how much CPU usage to expect (after the fresh installation). I don’t let my CPU usage go high (in idle state).

It mayb safe but it’s also paranoid, how many times does it happen that you actually are infected.
It’s like having 5 antivirus installed, way to paranoid.

Modern processors don’t feel jack having a tiny trojan onboard. You wouldn’t notice a thing. Take it from me, I used to do this for a living

Yes!!, this thing is correct. Always keep an eye on the CPU usage, in Dual Core CPUs (and below) it can be seen easily.

Is this what you mean ?

Or do you want the “processes” tab?
Answer #17
sounds about fine having 30% ram. whats that about 1.2GB on services etc ?
Answer #18
Where do you see services?
