first time overclocking

Hello all I am looking at overclocking to get better frame rates and performance form my machine. I have a gigabyte 7950 and amd 8350 fx. I also have biostar ta990 fxe motherboard and 8gb ram. I was wondering how easy it is and weather all in all it would be worth it. Here is gpuz numbers at the moment gpu clock 1000 and memory clock 1250 tem[p 32 dgrsC idle fan speed 33 % VDDC 0.950V. CPUID is 1..02 to 1.38 temp is 12-13dgrsC any help would be appreciated oh and also I don’t have stock cooler on cpu I have COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2 Continuous Direct Contact 120mm Sleeve CPU Cooler and the case I have is COOLER MASTER HAF 912 RC-912-KKN1 and the RAM is Crucial Ballistix 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 and the info on that is DRam frequency is 666-667, fsb dram 3:10 and the timings are showing in cpuz as 9-9-9-24 then the last one says 33. Any help much appreciated and is everything running ok? Thanks in advance.

PM’d my BIOS screenshots, bear in mind each chip and each motherboard are different so the figures may need a little adaptation. Edit: set your Ram first you only need the timings (9-9-9-24) and the fixed voltage(should be on the label on the ram), if you overclock first you’ll have a job getting it stable at the correct speed, once you’ve got the overclock settings entered, reboot and test with PRIME for at least 12 hours, longer if you can (monitor the temps whilst this is going on), if its stable (no errors, freezing or BSOD) then go back to BIOS and try dropping the voltage a notch and test again, keep reducing until you get an error then return to BIOS and increase it by 2 notches (+), this should give you a pretty stable overclock. The lower the voltage the lower the temps. After you are happy with it and saved the BIOS settings either take screenshots or make note of the settings just in case. For the first few weeks keep an eye on event viewer for any power related irregularities. It can be a slow and irritating process if you get an error after 10 hours or so.
Edit 2: already PM’d to op, but for anyone else thinking of OC’ing. Don’t be afraid of your BIOS you can always reset everything (in BIOS, or with the jumper or removing the battery) and keep well under the max voltage for the CPU. Sounds a little carefree I know, but I was bricking it the first time I couldn’t get a post, so if you are feint hearted or don’t have time to commit don’t try it.

my ram is only at 716 according to cpuz thats at 99924 but the ram is supposed to be much higher is this right. Also if i set the ram in the bios as 1600 the timing is way off. Also which timing do i need to change in the bios if I was to change it up? and also the fsb draqm is 3:10 Is this ok>?

The ram timing and correct voltage (ie 9-9-9-24 1.60v) for the stated speed should be on a label on the ram stick (if not maybe on the packaging), if not let me know the exact make and model of the ram and I’ll find out for you. Don’t forget the speed shown in CPUZ needs to be doubled if its dual channel DDR3, which it should be (so 700MHz is 1400MHz).
