Best download site / service?

I’ve been a paid rapidshare user for years now. However, lately I notice rapidshare is being used less and less. What’s the best altertative at the moment and why has rapidshare become less popular?

There is no straight answer to your question, but your best bet would be on either ~ Disallowed ~ or ~ Disallowed ~. I’d go for HF.
Simple answer for RS being abandoned by many up-loaders is because “They are not being rewarded for their TIME” Almost using all other services u can make money by uploading !!
Hotfile or Fileserve are probably the best now.
I presume you are a leecher. Basically you have 3 filehosts that are popular at the moment, and will probably stay popular for a while.
Megaupload, Hotfile and Fileserve
The benefits:
Megaupload – unlimited downloads and storage, good speeds( for me at least, but i have seen people complaining about the speeds being slow), everything is available on megaupload
Hotfile – unlimited download and storage and hotfile is extremely popular at the moment.
Fileserve – unlimited download and storage, good speeds – both upload and download, and it is vastly popular so you can expect to find links for whatever you want on FS
The cons
Megaupload – pretty bad for uploaders, i get around upload speeds of about 5 mb/s on rapidshare and 2 mb/s on fileserve, and yet on Megaupload i don’t get over 400 kb/s. You might not think much of this , but if it is not good for uploaders, then there will be lesse links for you.
Hotfile – bad speeds (for me at least, i got under half the speed i get with megaupload, but other people get very good speeds)
Fileserve – i can’t really think of anything since i was only a premium member for a month and i didn’t use it very much.
So there you go, look through what i wrote and see which one fits your needs the most. Oh and btw, despite what people are saying i see not difference in the amount of rapidshare links. I still am able to find everything i want to download. Also the amount you can download using rapidshare hasn’t changed at all. Before you would get 5 gb a day, 5 x 30 = 150 gb and now you get 150 gb per month which is the same thing..

You helped a LOT… thanks so much for all the info. Apart from downloading I also use RS for storage and transfer of large audio files so the upload issue with MU is well worth noting in my case.
